Hot Water Springs :)
Reason to Smile: The summers arrived and the water scarcity or the save water emblem has been the talk of the town. It is indeed the water shortage that's killing most of the Mumbaikars in town. While some are already applying tried and tested methods to save water, some are uniquely figuring it out how to consume less of it.
And some weird people like me come across friends who found out where natural hot water springs are available around Mumbai suburbs ! I did not know anything about it at all. Infact I was always under the impression that natural hot water springs are situated only near the Himalayas :P The last one I had checked was at Manikaran, Manali. I must admit, I had not liked the way it was maintained :(
But this one is near Virar. Vajreshwari Temple is located about 31kms from Virar Station. There are around twenty-one hot water springs in a five-kilometer radius of the temple. According to tradition, the hot water is the blood of demons and giants who were slain by the goddess Vajreshwari. According to scientists, their proximity to the former volcano in the region accounts for their creation. Pilgrims who visit the temple also have a holy bath in the springs, which are referred to as kundas in Sanskrit and are named after Hindu deities like Surya (sun-god), Chandra(moon-god), Agni (fire-god), Vayu (wind-god), Rama (Vishnu's incarnation), Sita (Rama's wife and incarnation of the goddess Lakshmi - wife of Vishnu) and Lakshmana (Rama's brother).
Some of the hot water springs we went around googling the maps were Vajreshwari, Akloli, Ganeshpuri, Baan Ganga, Nimboli, and Satavali. The condition in which they are already being used are not so good. The only one we realised neat and clean was the one at Satavali. It has 3 of them. One very hot, the other luke warm and the third one least warm. But all of them have this springing up naturally all the year round. :)
The summers did not kill the heat but the warmth of those natural reserves surely made the weekend special. Looking forward to some more but now probably during monsoons :P
Some pics on FB.. Keep Smiling.. Keep Saving :)
